Project Type:
Internship

Focus:
VR, AR, Virtual Production

Software Used:
Unreal Engine 5

Date:
Summer 2026

Description:
During the summer of 2026 I was invited to Planet X Studios in Maspeth Brooklyn to learn more about the process of virtual production and explore the technologies used in their various internal systems.

Sony ELF2 with Unreal Engine 5

While interning with Planet X they tasked me with getting their Sony ELF SR2 up and running. Their long term goal was to impliment this device as a supplement to their virtual production location scouting system.

Light Matching

I took an hdri of the office space and with it, alongside some supplemental area lights, I light matched the office space, helping improve the holographic illusion provide more accurate reflections and shadows.

Location Scouting

I also implimented and experimented with Unreal Engine’s built in VR location scouting tools. Setting it up for future use at the studio and exploring / documenting the available tools for annotating, measuring, relighting, and cinematography.

Custom Player Movement

I am personally not a fan of the default VR movement controls. I built a simple but effective alternative using more traditional joystick movement for the VR player with a variable movement speed for percise locomotion throughout a scene.
