Project Type:
Contract Work
Focus:
Science Visualization, Education
Date:
Spring - Fall 2024
Software Used:
Houdini
Description:
A series of projects and experiments in Houdini built in collaboration with Debra Isaac for her work teaching science visualization at USC, Drexel, and Houdini.School.
Procedural Jellyfish
A project designed to teach various procedural methods for modeling, animation, and simulation.
Profile Curve to Jellyfish
This project took students all the way from animated curves to a simulated swimming jellyfish. On top of basic procedural modeling, this also tought students about the various ways to convert and reinterperate data to make rich and complex work from simple inputs.
Red and Blue Shifting
Particle simulation made to visualize the concept of Red and Blue shifting in astrophysical observations.
Nebula R&D
Results from an exploration into methods for recreating nebula images in CG. The project is also designed as an introduction to various simulation methods.
Fractal Ray Marching
Focusing more on math and computer graphics princpiles, this project was the result of an exploration into fractal rendering.
Newtonian Gravity
A simple project exploring basic netwonian gravity equations implimented in a POP wrangle within a particle simualtion. Came from the idea that the Navier Stokes equation is often used to model astrophysical ‘fluids’ leading me to consider using FLIP as a way of building out cosmic gas collisions and black holes.
CT Scan Visualization
Exploring the method outlined by Kalina Borkiewicz in her Houdini.School course on science visualization for CAT scan to VDB conversion.
