Description:
UFO sightings since 1925 visualized chronologically and spatially. A demo project built for my class on data visualization in Houdini.
Encoded Meaning
This piece was built as a learning tool to demonstrate methods of encoding data into animation.
Programmatic Methods
The final short is the product of transforming a spreadsheet of 74,000 UFO sighting records into an appealing animation. This required leveraging python to transform the data into formats compatible with Houdini systems.
On the right is an test where the reported shape of each UFO corresponded with a custom geometry. This was dropped to reduce visual confusion.
