About Me
Hello,
I started this blog to show off my work more easily, without having to worry about polishing and finalizing everything. However, for this first post, I thought it would be good to write a little bit about who I am.
I am a 3D artist. I have been working in SideFX Houdini on Motion Design and Science Visualization for the past year or so, but I am also interested in narrative-oriented animation. I have done some short films that you can look at in the ‘films’ section on this website’s header.
My Education
In school, I got a degree in ‘visual art and technology’ from Stevens Institute of Technology. It was basically a degree in design, but taught by a lot of artists who work with technology. I focused mainly on motion graphics, as that was the subject of most of the animation classes they offered.
This is when I learned Cinema 4D and After Effects. For my first year doing animation my notable works include the project 3D Motion Sketchbook and the two videos below. The video ‘Squares!’ won an award that year for best moving image work. The video ‘Coffee!’ did not, although looking back on it many years later I can see why.
I became interested in hybrid 2D/3D animation near the end of my degree. This came after doing a more traditional animation project with my short ‘My v60 Technique’. I wanted to try and blend what I learned there with the 3D animation skills I was developing simultaneously. This led to my senior thesis project ‘A Canter in Twilight’.
I also took a lot of classes in physics, math, and astronomy as a secondary concentration within my major. This was done mainly out of curiosity and personal interest, but it has been a great help recently while working on scientific animation projects.
Outside of Work
I love the outdoors, I think it’s great for your mind and spirit to spend time out in nature. I spend lots of my weekends hiking and climbing outdoors.
I am also a big anime enjoyer, my favorites being cel era mech shows and atmospheric iyashikei stuff.
My third big thing is coffee. I’m big into the online coffee fanatic culture, and love spending time in specialty cafes or trying out different brewing methods at home.
