CT Scan Models

For this project I converted CT scan data (DCM images) into VDB objects. With the use of Houdini’s VDB shaders and VDB to Geometry work flows I was able to create and explore this medical data as accurate 3D objects. Although it is difficult to work with and adjust, with only the density available to differentiate each voxel, it was still possible to make compelling and realistic representations of data that normally would seem alien to an untrained eye.

I am continuing to explore this data format along with similar medical scans in order to develop interesting and helpful ways of representing them.

The data was obtained from the National Library of Medicine’s Visible Human Project.

I would also like to thank Houdini.School for help with the programming required to generate the VDB data!
